Synopsis
Exploring the formative adolescence of future Clan leaders Misaki Yata and Saruhiko Fushimi, this theatrical prequel reveals how the two middle school boys first met. Struggling with loneliness, emotional neglect, and abusive domestic environments, the brash, impulsive Misaki and the introverted, cynical computer hacker Saruhiko form an inseparable friendship. Hiding away in abandoned urban rooftops and digital chat rooms, the boys rebel against mundane society, seeking an extraordinary realm where their unique talents and mutual camaraderie can thrive outside the restrictive confines of ordinary social expectations.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Saruhiko's abusive father Niki tortures him psychologically, burning Saruhiko's hand with a cigarette and mocking his friendship with Misaki. Misaki stands up to Niki, fiercely defending Saruhiko and cementing their brotherhood. The boys run away from home and encounter Mikoto Suoh and the fiery street gang Homra in Shizume City. Accepted into the Red Clan, Misaki embraces the camaraderie, but Saruhiko grows increasingly bitter and alienated as Misaki's attention shifts to Mikoto, foreshadowing Saruhiko's eventual ideological betrayal and defection to the rival Blue Clan Scepter 4.
