Story

Synopsis

Directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai and written by Mari Okada, this emotional drama centers on second-year high school student Aoi Aioi, an aspiring bass guitarist living in a secluded mountain town in Chichibu. Aoi feels deeply indebted to her older sister Akane, who abandoned her dream of moving to Tokyo to raise Aoi following their parents' sudden death thirteen years earlier. While practicing bass in an old shrine hall, Aoi is stunned when Shinnosuke, Akane's former high school boyfriend, appears as a living seventeen-year-old spirit from the past, while his real-life thirty-one-year-old self returns to town as a cynical guitarist.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Seventeen-year-old spirit Shinno realizes he is an emotional phantom manifestation born from Shinnosuke's forgotten adolescent dreams and unfulfilled love for Akane. When Akane is trapped in a mountain landslide during a storm, the adult Shinnosuke and spirit Shinno race together across the forest to rescue her. Aoi overcomes her jealousy and confesses her deep gratitude toward Akane. Shinno helps the adult Shinnosuke rekindle his lost passion for music before the phantom dissolves into the blue sky, allowing adult Shinnosuke and Akane to finally rekindle their romance.
