A big sloppy mess with some snazzy imagery, a few cutting shards of romance, and some excellent acting by a top-flight cast.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
.hack//G.U. Trilogy is a CGI film that folds CyberConnect2's three-part PlayStation 2 game series .hack//G.U. into a single story set in the same storyline as the games. CyberConnect2 made it with Bandai Visual, and Hiroshi Matsuyama directed. Matsuyama wanted a project with demanding visuals and wanted the film to center on the relationship between Haseo and Atoli. Takahiro Sakurai voices Haseo and Ayako Kawasumi voices Atoli, and Seiichiro Hosokawa designed Haseo and Ovan. If you have played the games, you will know the beats. The film premiered in Tokyo in December 2007 and reached DVD in Japan in March 2008.
