Synopsis

Following the sudden passing of her wealthy father and the loss of her family fortune, snooty heiress Chitose Fujinomiya is expelled from her elite urban academy. Relocating to the countryside with her only remaining possession, Gyopi, an irreplaceable flying pink goldfish, Chitose enrolls in the rustic Inaka Middle School. Desperate to restore her elite status, Chitose attempts to bring strict urban decorum to the classroom, only to be overwhelmed by hyperactive farm girl Wapiko and her eccentric livestock classmates. Bizarre slapstick chaos and cheerful country warmth soon dismantle Chitose snobbish pride.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Airing fifty-four episodes on TV Asahi from January 1991 to February 1992, *Goldfish Warning!* was produced by Toei Animation and directed by Junichi Sato. Adapting Neko Nekobe popular shojo comedy manga, the anime was instrumental in pioneering dynamic comedic visual shorthands, including exaggerated chibi deformations, slapstick pacing, and surreal fourth-wall gags. With cheerful musical direction by Akiko Kosaka, the production was a massive ratings hit, influencing modern magical comedy and school parody anime for subsequent decades.
