In modern Japan, young witches are traditionally expected to leave home upon turning fifteen to master independence and practical sorcery. Makoto Kowata is an earnest, slightly absent-minded apprentice witch who moves from Yokohama to rural Hirosaki, Aomori, to live with her second cousins, Kei and Chinatsu. Accompanied by her black cat familiar Chito, Makoto settles into the quiet rhythms of northern Japan. Between attending regular high school classes, planting backyard gardens, and brewing herbal remedies, Makoto introduces her delighted cousins to magical neighbors, flying brooms, and the gentle wonders of everyday countryside living.

J.C.Staff animated this twelve-episode slice-of-life comedy, which broadcast in spring 2016. Katsushi Sakurabi directed the series based on the peaceful manga created by Chihiro Ishizuka, with scripts supervised by Deko Akao. Renowned for its tranquil, iyashikei atmosphere, the production captured the authentic regional beauty of Hirosaki City, featuring real-world local landmarks, apple orchards, and seasonal cuisine. The anime earned high praise from critics for its dry observational humor, understated pacing, and enchanting integration of low-key magical folklore into the peaceful routines of suburban Japanese domestic life.
