Story

Synopsis

Aspiring martial artist Son Goku and his ambitious rival Kuririn arrive at Kame House seeking rigorous tutelage under the legendary Master Roshi. Unwilling to instruct two boisterous youngsters without testing their resolve, the master issues a daunting challenge: rescue a mysterious sleeping princess trapped within the demonic fortress of Lucifer. Journeying to ominous Devil Castle atop the Hand of Evil mountain range, Goku and Kuririn battle bloodthirsty vampire hordes. Alongside allies Bulma and Yamcha, the young fighters must defeat Lucifer before solar eclipse rituals extinguish humanity.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Daisuke Nishio and animated by Toei Animation, this 1987 theatrical feature was released as the second standalone film in Akira Toriyama iconic *Dragon Ball* cinematic canon. The movie debuted at the Toei Manga Matsuri summer fair, offering an alternate universe retelling of Goku and Kuririn formative friendship. Noted for its atmospheric gothic horror aesthetic and intricate castle battle sequences, the production features an early animated portrayal of Goku rampaging Great Ape transformation under lunar moonlight.
