Story

Synopsis

High in the secluded wilderness of Mount Paozu, super-strong orphan boy Son Goku lives peacefully until teenage inventor Bulma arrives searching for mystical Dragon Balls. Teaming up to locate the remaining artifacts, the duo is joined by the cowardly shapeshifting pig Oolong and desert bandit Yamcha. Their journey leads them to the Kingdom of Gurumes, where greedy King Gurumes has devastated the countryside mining valuable Blood Rubies, causing a demonic curse that leaves him perpetually starving. When royal soldiers attack innocent villagers to steal the final Dragon Ball, Goku unleashes his Power Pole and martial arts fury to dethrone the monstrous monarch.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Directed by Daisuke Nishio and produced by Toei Animation, *Dragon Ball: Curse of the Blood Rubies* premiered in Japanese theaters in December 2006 as the first animated feature film in Akira Toriyama's legendary franchise. Created as an alternate cinematic retelling of the manga's opening story arc, the fifty-minute film debuted as part of the Toei Manga Matsuri festival alongside *Gegege no Kitaro*. The movie was warmly received by audiences for its brisk comedic pacing, lively martial arts choreography, and charming early franchise lore, launching an expansive series of theatrical adaptations spanning four decades.
