Story
Synopsis
A series of ominous atmospheric phenomena unsettles the peaceful paradise of Moominvalley, culminating in rain that coats the landscape in black soot and philosophers warning of a fiery cosmic catastrophe. Accompanied by his timid companion Sniff, Moomintroll embarks on an expedition to the Lonely Mountains to consult the astronomers at the mountain observatory. Along the winding road, they meet the free-spirited traveler Snufkin, the eccentric Snork and his sister the Snorkmaiden, and the gentle Hemulen. Arriving at the summit, the travelers discover that a massive, blazing red comet is hurtling directly toward Moominvalley.

The astronomers calculate that the comet will strike Moominvalley in precisely four days. Moomintroll and his companions race against time across drying oceans and sweltering locust swarms to reach home before the impact. Reunited with Moominpappa and Moominmamma, the entire family takes shelter inside an ocean cave lined with protective mattresses and raspberry jam. The comet blazes across the sky, narrowly missing the Earth and shifting back into deep space. The ocean rushes back into the bay, the valley blooms with fresh green grass, and the Moomin family celebrates survival with a joyful outdoor feast.
