Synopsis
Mirai Kuriyama is a clumsy, bespectacled high school girl who belongs to a cursed clan of Spirit World Warriors capable of manipulating their own blood into lethal swords. Tasked with hunting down Akihito Kanbara, an immortal half-human, half-youmu adolescent whose inner beast harbors catastrophic destructive potential, Mirai repeatedly stabs Akihito on the school roof, only to discover he cannot die. Instead of fighting back, Akihito invites her to join the school's literary club. This theatrical recap reframes the dark fantasy television series from Mirai's emotional perspective, chronicling their journey from sworn adversaries to soulmates.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Mirai learns that the colossal calamity youmu known as Beyond the Boundary resides inside Akihito's body, and killing it requires her to sacrifice her own life. In the movie's tragic climax, Mirai draws the cursed youmu into herself, saving Akihito's life while her physical body dissolves into the spirit plane. Akihito awakens in tears, realizing Mirai shouldered the curse to grant him a normal life. The theatrical film ends with an exclusive post-credits scene set six months later, where Mirai suddenly reappears on the school rooftop, setting the stage for the definitive Future feature film.
