Story
Synopsis
Wandering mercenary Guts drifts from battlefield to battlefield in a brutal medieval realm, knowing only the weight of his colossal broadsword. After slaying an enemy champion during a fortress siege, Guts is ambushed by the Band of the Hawk, a legendary mercenary company led by the charismatic, visionary commander Griffith. Bested by Griffith in single combat, Guts is forcefully recruited into the band. As Griffith's tactical genius elevates the mercenaries into the noble favor of the Midland Kingdom, Guts forms an intense camaraderie with Griffith and fierce female commander Casca, finding a sense of belonging.

Griffith secures nobility after the Band of the Hawk seizes an impenetrable castle for the King of Midland. Overhearing this speech, Guts feels alienated, realizing he is merely a tool in Griffith's grand political ascent. Meanwhile, Griffith secretly clutches the Crimson Behest, an ominous egg of fate that foreshadows the horrific demonic sacrifice that awaits the band in the future.
