A New Dawn

A New Dawn (Hanarokushou ga Akeru Hi ni) is the first feature from director and writer Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, an illustrator who has worked on The Garden of Words, Your Name, In This Corner of the World and Pompo the Cinephile in art and animation roles. The Japanese title refers to hana rokushou, the Paris green pigment once used in fireworks. It is a French-Japanese co-production by Asmik Ace, Studio Outrigger and Miyu Productions, the French company that also co-produced Ghost Cat Anzu. Riku Hagiwara and Kotone Furukawa made their voice acting debuts as Keitaro and Kaoru, with Miyu Irino as Keitaro's older brother, and Shuta Hasunuma composed the music. The film was previewed at Annecy's showcase at Cannes in 2024, premiered at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2026, and opened in Japan in March 2026 after a delay from 2025.
