Synopsis

In 1374 during Japan's tumultuous Nanboku-cho era, when rival imperial courts clashed for supremacy, young Oniyasha drifts through life burdened by an existential question: why do human beings dance? As the sensitive, strikingly handsome son of Kanami, head of the renowned Kanze performance troupe, Oniyasha struggles to find meaning in theatrical rituals. However, performing before powerful warlords such as Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, Oniyasha witnesses the raw sorrow and impermanence of mortal life. Confronting personal vulnerabilities and artistic rivalries, Oniyasha channels deep emotional grief into revolutionary physical expression, laying the foundations for Japan's timeless art of Noh theater.
