Story

Synopsis

Broadcast right before the decisive final cour of the Alicization saga, this special episode summarizes the devastating initial clashes of the Underworld war. Narrating the desperate defense mounted by Integrity Knight Alice, the recap details how foreign invaders manipulated by Gabriel Miller breached the Great Eastern Gate to overwhelm the Human Empire. As divine avatars Stacia, Solus, and Terraria descend from the real world to stem the tide, the summary underscores the staggering casualties suffered by beloved knights and commanders. The emotional retrospective builds anticipation for the imminent awakening of the comatose Black Swordsman, Kazuto Kirito Kirigaya.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Airing on Japanese television in July 2020 as episode 12.5, *Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld Reminiscence* was produced by A-1 Pictures. The special refreshed viewer memories following production delays caused by global events, condensing the brutal skirmishes of the autumn 2019 broadcast. By highlighting the courage of Alice, Asuna, Sinon, and Leafa, the recap primed fans for the explosive final battles against Gabriel Miller and PoH across the Underworld.
