Synopsis
In the year 2199, ruthless alien bombardment by the militaristic Gamilas Empire has irradiated Earth's surface, forcing human civilization into subterranean shelters with only one year of survival remaining. Hope arrives via an alien distress beacon from Queen Starsha of Iscandar, offering blueprints for a faster-than-light Wave Motion Engine and a cosmic cleansing device capable of restoring Earth. Repurposing the sunken World War II dreadnought Yamato into a formidable space battleship, Captain Juzo Okita and young tactical officer Susumu Kodai lead a courageous crew on a perilous 148,000 light-year odyssey to preserve mankind.
