Synopsis
Entering her third and final year at Kitauji High School, Kumiko Oumae assumes the demanding role of concert band president. Supported by vice-president Shuuichi Tsukamoto and drum major Reina Kousaka, Kumiko shoulders the collective ambition of winning Kitauji's elusive national gold medal. Her leadership is swiftly tested by incoming first-year players, intense sectional rivalries, and the arrival of Mayu Kuroe, a prodigiously gifted transfer student on euphonium. As advisor Noboru Taki announces a meritocratic audition system for the regional competition, personal loyalties and artistic pride collide within the ensemble.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
The film covers the dramatic midpoint of Kumiko's senior year, culminating in the heart-wrenching Kansai regional audition where Kumiko loses the coveted euphonium solist position to Mayu Kuroe. Despite the crushing personal devastation of losing her spotlight before the entire band, Kumiko refuses to let resentment fracture the club. She addresses her weeping peers, demands absolute dedication to musical excellence, and reaffirms her faith in Mr. Taki's judgment, uniting the ensemble under her undisputed leadership as they march decisively into the national finals. Her selfless commitment proves that her genuine devotion to Kitauji's shared dream matters far more than personal glory.
