Story

Synopsis

In an alternate, culturally intricate world, twenty-one-year-old Shirotsugh Lhadatt lives as an unmotivated, slacking officer in the Royal Space Force of the Kingdom of Honneamise, a neglected and ridiculed military branch that has never launched a person into orbit. Shirotsugh's mundane cynicism begins to dissolve when he meets Riquinni Nonderaiko, a devout young religious woman distributing scripture in the slums who genuinely believes that space exploration will bring humanity closer to God. Inspired by her pure idealism, Shirotsugh volunteers to become the kingdom's first human astronaut, undertaking grueling physical training.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Shirotsugh discovers that Honneamise's corrupt military brass and aristocratic rulers regard the space program as a diplomatic bait, intentionally staging the launch near the contested border to provoke an invasion by the neighboring Republic. As enemy tanks and infantry storm the launch pad, Shirotsugh refuses to abort, ordering the ignition sequence to proceed under heavy artillery fire. The rocket blasts into orbit, leaving the war behind. Floating peacefully in space, Shirotsugh broadcasts an open radio prayer across the globe, pleading with humanity to abandon tribal hatred and embrace cosmic peace.
