Synopsis
Saenome are specialized guardians tasked with pacifying tsukumogami, ancient spirits born from cherished physical objects that cross over into the human world. While most spirits are peaceful, young exorcist Hyouma Kunato harbors bitter, unyielding hatred toward them after a malevolent entity brutally murdered his brother and sister. Recognizing Hyouma's destructive rage, his grandfather issues an ultimatum: he must move to Kyoto and reside with Botan Nagatsuki, a gentle woman who shares her home with six beloved tsukumogami family members. Reluctantly accepting, Hyouma must confront his deep-seated prejudices while protecting Botan from shadowy underworld factions seeking her unique spiritual essence.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Produced by Bandai Namco Pictures and directed by Ryuichi Kimura, *Mononogatari* aired for twelve episodes from January to March 2023. Based on Onigunso's supernatural seinen manga serialized in *Ultra Jump*, the series won praise from anime critics for its disciplined martial choreography, intricate mythological worldbuilding, and thoughtful character psychology. The anime's nuanced exploration of grief, family bonds, and cultural folklore was accompanied by a distinctive traditional-meets-modern soundtrack, securing an immediate second-cour continuation that solidified its reputation among fans of mature supernatural action dramas.
