Story

Synopsis

This film focuses on a stretch of Goro Shigeno's childhood baseball, following the Mifune Dolphins as a team of kids with limited talent and considerable determination take on opponents who outclass them on paper. Goro's stubbornness and his shoulder are already the defining facts of his athletic life, and the friendships built here shape the decades of career that follow. The film delivers a self-contained story while sitting comfortably within the larger franchise's long chronology of one athlete's entire life. Every game at this age shapes the pitcher he spends decades becoming.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Based on Takuya Mitsuda's long-running manga, Major follows its protagonist across his whole life from early childhood through professional and international play, spanning six television seasons plus films and OVAs. That structure is genuinely rare in sports anime and allows the franchise to address aging, injury, and long-term physical consequence seriously. This film slots into the series' early period, and the franchise remains a standard recommendation for viewers wanting sports storytelling built on a career rather than a tournament. Its place early in the timeline makes it accessible to newcomers to the franchise.
