Synopsis

In the scenic regional city of Maebashi, Gunma Prefecture, high school student Yuina Akagi lives an ordinary, somewhat aimless life until an eccentric talking frog named Keroppe introduces her to an enchanted underground wardrobe room. Joined by four distinctive classmates from diverse backgrounds, Yuina learns that they have been chosen as modern urban witches entrusted with granting the sincere wishes of local citizens. Transforming through magical singing and expressive coordination, the novice witches resolve teenage insecurities, heal neighborhood disputes, and revitalize their hometown through heartfelt compassion and cooperation.

Background (may contain spoilers)

Created as an original multimedia anime project by studio Sunrise, *Maebashi Witches* was directed by Junichi Yamakawa with series composition by E Erika and original character designs by Kazuto Nakazawa. Set against authentic real-world locations in Maebashi City, the production combines magical girl coming-of-age tropes with regional revitalization initiatives and vibrant pop musical numbers. The anime highlights colorful character animation, empathetic adolescent drama, and the uplifting power of local community solidarity.
