Synopsis

One year after the cataclysmic battle against the giant serpent Orochi, peace has returned to Lake Biwa and the town of Otsu. Eldest brother Tenka Kumo struggles with permanent physical injuries sustained during the Orochi conflict, relying on a wheelchair while younger brothers Soramaru and Choutarou manage shrine duties. When Tenka's former comrade Sousei Abeno visits, memories resurface regarding the creation of the Yamainu, an elite government paramilitary squad established during the Meiji Restoration to eradicate the Orochi. Tenka must confront unresolved grief regarding his abrupt abandonment of the Yamainu squad.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Flashbacks uncover that Tenka left the Yamainu not out of cowardice, but because his parents were assassinated by the Fuma ninja clan, forcing him to dedicate his life entirely to raising his two orphaned younger brothers. Sousei felt betrayed by Tenka's departure, believing Tenka abandoned their shared military oath. Through a fierce emotional duel with wooden swords, Sousei and Tenka release years of unspoken sorrow, rekindling their mutual respect. The Yamainu formally salute Tenka as an eternal brother, granting him peace of mind as Soramaru proudly inherits the Kumo family blade.
