Synopsis
Thousands of years ago in ancient Mesopotamia, extraterrestrial travelers crash-landed on Earth, leaving alien prince Lu Li stranded among early human civilizations. Cursed by a temporal distortion within their life matrix, Lu Li and his mortal soulmate can only reunite for ten fleeting days during every reincarnation cycle before cruel destiny separates them again. Awakening in the gleaming modern metropolis, Lu Li disguises himself as an entertainment mogul to locate his reincarnated lover in contemporary show business. Navigating showbiz rivalries and awakening ancient memories, the star-crossed lovers fight desperate cosmic odds to shatter their eternal cycle of sorrow.

Inspired by superstar Jay Chou's iconic mandopop hit *Love Before BC*, *Ai Zai Xiyuan Qian* was produced by Taikong Works and released on streaming platform iQIYI in summer 2019. The twelve-episode romantic sci-fi donghua blends ancient Babylonian mythology with modern urban celebrity culture, exploring reincarnation, cosmic romance, and musical nostalgia. Directed to evoke the melancholy poetry of Chou's original composition, the production resonated strongly with nostalgic pop music fans and romance viewers for its melodic soundtrack, sleek character designs, and emotional time-spanning narrative.
