Lucy Heartfilia encounters Éclair, an amnesiac young priestess collapsed in the streets of Magnolia alongside her bird-like companion Momon. Éclair carries the Phoenix Stone, a mystical relic said to grant terrifying power when united with its missing twin. Despite Éclair's deep distrust of magic, the Fairy Tail guild pledges to escort her safely to boundary lands. Their journey is violently intercepted by the mercenary guild Carbuncle, whose ruthless leader Duke Cream seeks both stones to awaken the immortal Phoenix and achieve world domination, putting the bonds of Fairy Tail to the ultimate test.
⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Duke Cream unites both halves of the Phoenix Stone and summons the colossal flaming Phoenix, which begins raining fire across the land. Momon sacrifices his own life in the flames to retrieve the sacred Arrow of Dispel. Lucy tearfully shoots the magical arrow directly into the eye of the beast while Natsu unleashes his Dragon Force to shatter its core. Defeating the Phoenix also severs Éclair's artificial immortality because she is revealed to be the ancient priestess who drank the Phoenix's blood four centuries ago. She dissolves into glowing light in Lucy's arms, finding long-awaited peace.
