Independent Fukuoka-based creative studios KOO-KI and MontBlanc Pictures produced this imaginative computer-animated family comedy, released in Japanese theaters in August 2012 by CoMix Wave Films. Directed and written by Hitoshi Takekiyo, the film expanded Takekiyo's viral short film concept into a lavish 3D feature. The film was celebrated internationally for its offbeat humor, vibrant slapstick timing, and eccentric character modeling, earning awards at animation festivals in Montreal and Brussels. Its success spawned subsequent short spin-offs, establishing Kunstrijk and Goth as popular comedy mascots.
