Story

Synopsis

Serving as the definitive prequel to the iconic franchise, this theatrical featurette reveals how the robotic cat Doraemon came into existence in the 22nd century. Born on the assembly line of the Matsushiba Robot Factory on September 3, 2112, Doraemon is struck by a stray bolt of lightning during production, knocking loose a tiny screw from his cerebral circuit. Classified as a defective sub-standard unit, Doraemon struggles through robot training academy, failing gadget examinations until an infant human boy named Sewashi Nobi presses his purchase button at the robot audition festival.

While working as Sewashi's domestic nanny robot, Doraemon takes an afternoon nap, and a robotic mouse bites off both his ears. In the hospital, medical errors leave him completely bald. Horrified by his appearance, Doraemon mistakenly drinks a bottle of Sadness potion instead of Cheer potion, weeping uncontrollably for three continuous days and nights. His tears wash away his bright yellow lacquer, exposing his iconic blue metal skin, and his voice becomes hoarse. Vowing to help Sewashi's impoverished ancestors, Doraemon boards the time machine to travel back to Nobita's era.
