Story

Synopsis

In a fantasy realm populated entirely by anthropomorphic beastfolk bearing animal traits, Belle Lablac is a solitary anomaly: a fangless, furless, scaleless girl known as a Nomad. Desperate to discover where she belongs and whether other creatures like her exist across the world, Belle takes up the Runding, an immense stone-encased greatsword taller than herself. Swearing an oath to explore the uncharted boundaries of the earth, she enters the prestigious armed forces of the merchant city Schmid to earn her travel dispensation, immediately drawing the attention of master swordsman Sian Lablac and rival beast combatants.

Produced by Liden Films as a collaborative production between WOWOW and Crunchyroll, the anime adapts the celebrated two-volume dark fantasy novel by Tow Ubukata, renowned creator of *Mardock Scramble*. Directed by Yasuto Nishikata, the series features rich world-building, kinetic swordplay, and musical composition by Kevin Penkin, following Belle's philosophical journey of identity as she confronts warring cities, grotesque anomalies, and the lonely truth of her humanity.
