Story
Synopsis
In Academy City, construction nears completion on the space elevator Endymion, a towering marvel of scientific engineering. Unlucky student Touma Kamijou and his nun companion Index encounter Arisa Meigo, a cheerful busker whose singing dreams seem on the verge of fruition. However, magical magicians from the Church of England, led by Stiyl Magnus, ambush Arisa, claiming she is a dangerous Level 6 threat capable of sparking global catastrophe. Touma uses his Imagine Breaker to protect Arisa, plunging into a three-way battle between Academy City's security forces, rogue magicians, and commercial corporate sponsors.

It is revealed that Arisa was born from a miracle three years earlier during the crash of the spaceplane Orion, manifesting as the positive spiritual half of the flight's sole survivor, security chief Shutaura Sequenzia. Shutaura intends to use Endymion as a giant magical resonator to absorb Arisa's life force and destroy the space elevator, seeking death to end her eternal grief. Touma, Index, Mikoto Misaka, and Accelerator join forces to thwart the catastrophe. Touma shatters the magical core with his Imagine Breaker, allowing Arisa and Shutaura to fuse into a single peaceful soul.
