Story
Synopsis
High school student Yuji Sakai finds his tranquil daily existence violently shattered when the flow of time freezes and monstrous Crimson Denizens descend to harvest human vitality. Rescued from the jaws of a beast by a fiery, katana-wielding girl with blazing red hair, Yuji learns that he is already dead, existing only as a temporary Torch whose presence will soon vanish from human memory. Refusing to accept her detachment, Yuji names the mysterious Flame Haze Shana and chooses to stand beside her as sinister forces conspire across their city.

The movie adapts the opening arc of the light novels with theatrical pacing, concluding with the climactic duel against Friagne the Puppeteer. Friagne initiates the City-Devouring ritual, planning to incinerate all inhabitants of Misaki City to resurrect his beloved puppet Marianne. Shana and Yuji intercept the ceremony, and Shana slays Friagne with her fiery blade Nietono no Shana. Yuji discovers he will not fade away like regular Torches because the legendary treasure Midnight Lost Child resides within his soul, continually restoring his existence power every midnight.
