Synopsis

This OVA concludes the Greed Island arc, where Gon and Killua entered a video game that is also a real place, collecting a set of one hundred spell cards while contending with other players who have no intention of sharing. Their training under Biscuit Krueger pays off against genuinely dangerous opponents, and the arc's conclusion delivers the information Gon has been chasing since the beginning about his father's whereabouts. Nen strategy takes precedence over raw strength throughout, which has always been the franchise's defining strength.

⚠ Background — may contain spoilers
Produced by Nippon Animation as the final OVA continuation of the 1999 Hunter x Hunter television series, this covers material the broadcast run never reached, based on Yoshihiro Togashi's manga. The Greed Island arc is notable for its elaborate rule-based structure, which showcases Togashi's fondness for systems that reward clever exploitation over brute force. Fan debate over whether this original adaptation or the 2011 Madhouse remake handles the arc better remains a long-running fixture of Hunter x Hunter discussion, with committed defenders on both sides.
