Story

Synopsis

During the fifth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City, amateur mage Shirou Emiya accidentally summons the swordswoman Servant Saber, plunging into a lethal battle royale between seven Masters. Forming a pragmatic alliance with talented schoolmate Rin Tohsaka and her mysterious Servant Archer, Shirou resolves to become an ally of justice who saves everyone. However, as rogue Servant Caster captures Saber and steals her command seals, Archer turns hostile toward Shirou, mocking his selfless philosophy. Shirou must master his unique projection magecraft to survive betrayal and uncover Archer's true, haunting identity.

Archer reveals he is the cynical future heroic spirit of Shirou himself, who was betrayed by humanity and executed after pursuing his naive hero fantasy. Archer attempts to murder Shirou in an ontological paradox to terminate his eternal servitude as a Counter Guardian. Shirou rejects Archer's despair, manifesting his personal reality marble, Unlimited Blade Works, and defeating his future self. When King of Heroes Gilgamesh attempts to incinerate humanity with the corrupted Holy Grail, Shirou counters Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon blade for blade, severing his arm before Archer snipes Gilgamesh with a final arrow.
